According to the Johnson City Police Department (JCPD), the crash occurred at approximately 3:25 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon along the 2500 block of Watauga Road, just east of McArthur Street. Investigators say an eastbound delivery truck collided head-on with a westbound Cadillac sedan under still-undetermined circumstances.
Both the driver and passenger of the Cadillac were transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. The passenger, identified as 51-year-old Mark Western of Johnson City, succumbed to his injuries a short time later. The driver of the Cadillac and the driver of the delivery truck were both treated for non-life-threatening injuries and later released.
As of Wednesday morning, the cause of the crash remains under investigation. The JCPD’s Traffic Reconstruction Team is working to determine the sequence of events that led to the fatal collision. No charges have been filed at this time, and no additional details have been released.
